Energia 97 FM is the successor of 97 FM, a station founded in Santo André (SP) in 1983 specializing in rock music. In December 1994, the former 97 Rock was discontinued and replaced by Hot Nine Seven, focusing on Eurodance (commonly known in Brazil as dance music).

For a brief period in 1999, it attempted to reposition itself as a popular radio station specializing in pagode, axé, and sertanejo genres. However, it did not achieve success in terms of audience and eventually returned to its roots with electronic music programming. In 2009, a new visual programming was introduced, reflected in its updated logo.

Their lineup includes the renowned show Estádio 97, a humorous football roundtable discussion, and Energia na Véia, broadcasting electronic music hits from the 70s, 80s, and 90s from 7:00 am to 10:00 am.

Two programs on the station have been awarded the APCA Prize: "Energia na Véia" in 2007 and "O Programa do Palhacinho" (Morde e Assopra) in 2011. Energia 97 FM also hosts the Spirit of London festival and the Energia na Véia Cruise.

It is currently the most listened-to youth radio station in São Paulo, being the only one in its ranking dedicated to dance music.
